East vs. West UTV Tour in Curaçao: Which One Should You Choose?
A UTV tour is one of the most adventurous ways to discover Curaçao beyond the beaches and main roads. Get behind the wheel, leave the paved roads behind and explore rugged landscapes, hidden natural spots and parts of the island most visitors never get to see. At BlueFinn Charters, you can choose between two different off-road adventures: the Eastern UTV Route and the Western UTV Route. Both tours offer plenty of off-road action, but the landscapes, stops and overall experience are different. So which UTV tour in Curaçao should you choose?
Let’s compare East vs. West.

First Things First: What Is a UTV?
You may see the terms ATV, buggy and UTV used interchangeably when searching for off-road tours in Curaçao, but they are not exactly the same thing. An ATV – or All-Terrain Vehicle – is typically a quad-style vehicle that you sit on and steer using handlebars. A UTV – Utility Terrain Vehicle – is a larger side-by-side vehicle with seats, a steering wheel and space for multiple passengers. At BlueFinn Charters, you’ll be driving a UTV buggy. Our UTVs accommodate 2 to 4 guests, making them a great way to experience an off-road adventure together.
You still get the dust, rugged trails and excitement of driving off-road, just in a different type of vehicle.
Why Choose a UTV Tour in Curaçao?
There is a side of Curaçao you simply won’t experience from the beach or while driving along the island’s main roads. Think rocky plains, wild coastlines, caves, powerful waves, hidden viewpoints and dusty off-road trails. A UTV gives you the opportunity to leave the regular roads behind and experience this wilder side of the island. You drive your own vehicle while following an experienced BlueFinn guide in convoy. Along the way, there are stops to discover the surroundings, take photos and learn more about the places you visit.
The question isn’t really whether a UTV tour is adventurous – both routes are. The question is: which side of Curaçao would you rather explore?

Eastern UTV Route: Rugged Coastlines and the Wild East
The Eastern UTV Route starts at the BlueFinn Tourdesk at Caracasbaai. After a safety briefing and introduction, it doesn’t take long before the scenery begins to change and the off-road adventure starts.
This route is all about Curaçao’s rugged eastern and northern landscapes. Expect rocky terrain, dramatic coastal scenery and plenty of dust along the way.
One of the stops is the Jan Thiel Viewpoint, where you can take in panoramic views across the island. From there, the route continues to the Cave of Doom, a hidden natural feature that adds another completely different landscape to the adventure.
You’ll also pass Curaçao’s impressive wind turbines, towering above the rugged surroundings and showing another side of the island that many visitors never see.
The route eventually takes you to Playa Kanoa, a well-known surf spot on Curaçao’s north coast. Protected by an offshore reef, the area closer to shore offers an opportunity to cool off with a refreshing swim before getting back into your UTV.
Choose the Eastern UTV Route if you:
- love rugged coastal landscapes
- want plenty of off-road adventure
- want to see the wind turbines of East Curaçao
- like discovering caves and hidden natural spots
- want to experience Playa Kanoa and Curaçao’s north coast
The East is wild, rugged and adventurous, perfect if that’s the side of Curaçao you came to discover.

Western UTV Route: Off-Road Trails, Caves and a Beach Stop
The Western UTV Route starts at the meeting point at Dreams Hotel. After the safety briefing, you set off in convoy and make your way toward the rugged Hato plains, where the real off-road driving begins.
Here you’ll navigate sandy tracks, rocky terrain, winding trails and uneven paths surrounded by Curaçao’s dry natural landscape.
The route also takes you past impressive wind turbines before continuing toward a hidden natural cave. From there, the scenery changes again as you make your way toward Bullenbaai, passing the distinctive white oil tanks along the coast.
One of the highlights of the Western route is the stop at Kokomo Beach at Vaersenbaai. After the dust and off-road trails, you’ll have the chance to cool off with a swim in the clear Caribbean Sea.
On the way back, the route passes the salt pans of Sint Michiel, an important habitat for flamingos. Keep your eyes open — you may be lucky enough to spot them, although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.
Choose the Western UTV Route if you:
- want a varied combination of off-road driving and sightseeing
- enjoy constantly changing landscapes
- want to explore the Hato plains and a natural cave
- like the idea of combining your adventure with a swim at Kokomo Beach
- hope to spot flamingos along the way
The West combines dusty trails and rugged terrain with a wider variety of scenery and stops along the way.

East vs. West: What Is the Biggest Difference?
Both UTV tours give you a real off-road experience, so you don’t need to choose between “adventure” and “sightseeing.” You’ll get a bit of both whichever route you take. The biggest difference is the landscape and the places you visit. Choose East if you’re drawn to rugged coastlines, Playa Kanoa, dramatic natural scenery and the wild character of Curaçao’s eastern and northern side. Choose West if you prefer more variety, with off-road plains, caves, coastal scenery, a beach stop at Kokomo and the possibility of seeing flamingos near Sint Michiel.
And if both sound good? There’s always another day.
Do You Drive the UTV Yourself?
Yes. One of the best parts of the experience is that you get behind the wheel of your own UTV and follow the guide along the route. Before departure, the BlueFinn team gives you a safety briefing and instructions. Don’t forget your driver’s license! During the tour, the group travels together in convoy with an experienced guide leading the way. That means you get the fun of driving the UTV yourself while still following a planned route with someone who knows the terrain.
* Drivers must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license. Driving experience is required, and you must carry your license with you during the tour.
What Do Both UTV Tours Include?
Whichever route you choose, both BlueFinn UTV experiences are designed around the same idea: getting away from the regular tourist routes and discovering Curaçao through a combination of driving, nature and adventure. Your tour includes a guide, dust goggles, a bandana, bottled water, a soft drink and a granola bar. Both tours take approximately 3 hours and are offered daily, with departures at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
Be prepared to get dusty, that’s part of the experience!

Which UTV Tour in Curaçao Is Right for You?
There really isn’t a wrong choice. If rugged coastlines, wind turbines, caves and Playa Kanoa sound like your kind of adventure, choose the Eastern UTV Route. If you’d rather combine off-road trails with the Hato plains, Bullenbaai, a swim at Kokomo Beach and the possibility of spotting flamingos, choose the Western UTV Route. Either way, you’ll discover a side of Curaçao that looks very different from the beaches, resorts and colorful streets the island is famous for.
