What To Expect

Your day begins the moment you step aboard. Our crew welcomes you, helps you get settled, and provides a short safety briefing before departure.

As we leave Curaçao behind, the coastline slowly disappears and the water changes from deep blue to brilliant shades of turquoise. The crossing to Klein Curaçao takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours each way. Because we travel across open ocean, sea conditions can vary from calm and relaxing to more adventurous and bumpy depending on the weather.

During the journey, you can relax in the shade, enjoy the sunshine, take in the views, or lounge on the catamaran nets above the water.

As Klein Curaçao appears on the horizon, you’ll immediately understand why it has become one of the most sought-after destinations in the Caribbean. The island is uninhabited, naturally beautiful, and completely different from the main island of Curaçao.

Upon arrival, we anchor just offshore. You can either swim to the beach through crystal-clear water or take a short dinghy ride to shore.

Once on the island, the day is yours to enjoy. Visit the famous pink lighthouse, explore the historic shipwrecks, snorkel in turtle habitat, relax on the beach, or simply soak in the peaceful surroundings.

On board, our crew serves a delicious lunch buffet, refreshing drinks, and friendly service so you can focus entirely on enjoying your island escape.

After an unforgettable afternoon, we return to Curaçao. Depending on the tour you choose, the journey back may include a spectacular Caribbean sunset.

OUR SIGNATURE SAILING EXPERIENCE

KLEIN CURAÇAO BY CATAMARAN

Sail to Klein Curaçao aboard one of our spacious catamarans: BlueFinn, Apache or Red Dragon. These large vessels are designed for comfort and stability and provide plenty of space for guests to spread out and enjoy the day.

On board you’ll find spacious shaded seating areas, large sun decks, catamaran nets above the water, seating along the hulls, marine toilets and storage compartments under seating (items may get wet)

While the layout differs slightly between the vessels, the route, service, inclusions, and overall experience remain the same.

Once on the island, guests have access to shaded palapas and a limited number of beach chairs. Because Klein Curaçao is a protected nature reserve and important nesting area for sea turtles and seabirds, development on the island is intentionally limited. While we provide as much comfort as possible, we kindly ask guests to share shaded areas and beach chairs so everyone can enjoy this unique destination.

A SUNSET RETURN TO REMEMBER

KLEIN CURAÇAO SUNSET EDITION

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About the Klein Curacao Tour

  • What is the crossing to Klein Curaçao like?

The journey to Klein Curaçao takes place across open ocean and is an important part of the experience. The crossing normally takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours each way, but travel times depend on wind, waves, and ocean currents.

During the windy season, which generally runs from January through July, sea conditions can be rougher and the crossing may occasionally take up to 3 hours. Higher waves and stronger winds can also mean that guests get wet during the journey.

We recommend keeping this in mind when choosing your clothing and packing your belongings. For many guests, this adventurous crossing is part of the charm of Klein Curaçao: a beautiful voyage across the Caribbean Sea to one of Curaçao’s most unique and untouched destinations.

  • I’m prone to seasickness. Can I still join?

Yes. Many guests who are prone to seasickness still enjoy this trip. Our catamarans are large and stable vessels, but the crossing to Klein Curaçao takes place on open ocean and can sometimes be choppy, particularly in the morning.

We recommend taking seasickness medication at least 30 minutes before departure, choosing a seat in the shaded middle section of the boat, staying hydrated, and avoiding a heavy breakfast. If you’re concerned, we also recommend reading our blog with additional tips for preventing seasickness.

  • Are there restrooms or facilities on the island?

Klein Curaçao is completely uninhabited. There are no shops, restaurants, hotels, medical facilities, electricity, or running water on the island.

You may notice a beach house and some shaded structures. These were built before Klein Curaçao became a protected nature reserve. Today, new development is heavily restricted to protect the island’s fragile ecosystem, including important nesting areas for sea turtles and seabirds.

All of our catamarans are equipped with marine toilets, which remain accessible throughout the day.

Part of Klein Curaçao’s charm is that it remains one of the few truly untouched Caribbean islands.

  • Is there shade or seating on the island?

Yes. There are shaded palapas and seating areas available on the island.

Because Klein Curaçao is a protected nature reserve, permanent structures and large-scale development are intentionally limited. While we provide as much comfort as possible, seating and shaded areas are shared among guests.

We kindly ask everyone to be considerate and share these spaces so all visitors can enjoy the island comfortably.

  • Do you serve alcohol during the trip?

Yes. Water, soft drinks, juice, beer, wine, and cocktails are included.

For safety reasons, alcoholic beverages are served from approximately 12:30 PM onwards, after arrival at Klein Curaçao.

The crossing to the island takes place over open ocean and can sometimes be rough. Delaying alcohol service helps reduce seasickness, improves passenger comfort, and allows guests to remain alert during boarding, swimming, and safety procedures.

Alcoholic beverages are only served to guests aged 18 and older. Valid identification may be requested.

  • Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

No, but being comfortable in the water is recommended.

Depending on weather and sea conditions, there may be currents around the island that can make swimming more challenging. Guests can either swim to shore or choose a dinghy transfer when available.

Life jackets are available for all guests. We do not provide swim noodles, but you are welcome to bring your own flotation device.

Most importantly, always follow the instructions of the crew regarding swimming conditions and designated entry points.

  • Is snorkeling gear available?

Guests are welcome to bring their own snorkeling equipment.

We do carry a limited number of masks and snorkels on board that may be used free of charge. Availability is first-come, first-served.

Please note that fins are not provided. If you prefer snorkeling with fins, we recommend bringing your own.

  • Is the return trip calmer?

    Often, yes.

The afternoon wind and wave patterns typically make the return journey more comfortable, and we usually travel with the waves rather than directly against them.

When weather conditions allow, our sailing catamarans may also raise the sails on the return journey, creating a smoother and more relaxing experience.

However, sea conditions vary every day, so we can never guarantee calm water.

  • Is this tour suitable for cruise passengers?

    Generally, no.

Klein Curaçao is a full-day excursion with early departure times and a return schedule that does not align with most cruise ship itineraries.

Cruise guests are responsible for returning to their ship on time. Because ships will not wait for late passengers and marine conditions can occasionally affect return times, we do not recommend this tour for cruise visitors.

Instead, we suggest choosing one of our island tours or shorter excursions that are specifically suitable for cruise schedules.

  • How long does it take to walk to the lighthouse and shipwreck?

The walk takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes each way.

We recommend wearing sandals or water shoes, applying sunscreen regularly, and bringing a hat. Much of the route offers little natural shade, and temperatures on the island can become very warm throughout the day.

Be sure to bring water if you plan on exploring.

  • Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

    In many cases, yes.

We can usually accommodate vegetarian, gluten-free, and certain dietary requirements when requested in advance.

Please notify us during the booking process so we can prepare accordingly.

  • Can pregnant guests join?

You are welcome to join if you feel comfortable and your physician has advised that it is safe for you.

Because every pregnancy is different, we cannot assess your individual situation and leave the decision entirely up to you and your healthcare provider.

Please keep in mind that the journey takes place on open ocean, conditions can sometimes be rough, and there are no medical facilities available on Klein Curaçao. For your safety and peace of mind, we strongly recommend consulting your physician before booking.

  • Are there jellyfish?

    Not commonly.

Occasionally, seasonal conditions may result in an increased presence of jellyfish around the island. If this occurs, our crew will inform guests before swimming activities begin.

  • Can I fly a drone?

    Yes.

Please fly responsibly and respect both nature and other guests. Avoid flying near sea turtles, nesting birds, or wildlife, and do not fly directly over other visitors without permission.

There are no charging facilities on the island or on board, so we recommend bringing spare batteries if you plan to fly extensively.
