What to Bring to Klein Curaçao: Your Day Trip Packing List
Booked your Klein Curaçao Day Trip with BlueFinn Charters? Then it’s time to start looking forward to white sand, turquoise Caribbean water and a full day on one of Curaçao’s most unique little islands.
The good news is that you don’t need to pack much. Your BlueFinn trip includes a freshly prepared BBQ lunch and drinks throughout the day, so there’s no need to fill your bag with food and beverages. Still, a few essentials can make your day more comfortable, especially if you plan to snorkel, explore the island or spend plenty of time in the sun.
Here’s what we recommend bringing to Klein Curaçao.

1. Have a Light Breakfast Before You Leave
Technically, you can’t pack breakfast in your beach bag, but it’s an important part of preparing for your trip. The journey to Klein Curaçao takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours across open sea, and conditions can vary from day to day. Have a light meal before departure and avoid very heavy, fatty or spicy foods, especially if you are sensitive to motion sickness. If you normally use motion sickness medication, it generally works best when taken before traveling. Always follow the instructions for the specific product and ask a pharmacist or healthcare professional if you’re unsure which option is suitable for you. Motion sickness medication is not provided on board, so make sure to bring your own if you think you may need it.
2. Your Phone or Camera
Klein Curaçao is incredibly photogenic, so make sure your phone or camera is charged and ready. The white sandy beach and turquoise water are only the beginning. Walk across the island and you’ll find the historic lighthouse, weathered buildings, rugged landscapes and shipwrecks along the windward coast. Get into the water and you may encounter colorful fish and other marine life, while sea turtles are also regularly spotted around Klein Curaçao. Even the journey itself can offer beautiful views across the Caribbean Sea and occasionally a dolphin sighting if you’re lucky. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, but there will certainly be plenty to photograph.

3. Plenty of Sun Protection
This one is essential. Klein Curaçao is open, sunny and has very little natural shade, especially once you leave the beach and walk into the interior of the island. Bring a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and reapply it regularly throughout the day, particularly after swimming. A hat or cap, UV-protective sunglasses and a lightweight UV shirt or rash guard can provide additional protection. The sea breeze can make the heat feel less intense than it actually is, so don’t wait until your skin feels hot before protecting yourself. This is especially important if you plan to walk to the lighthouse and shipwrecks, where you’ll be exposed to the sun for most of the route.

4. Snorkeling Gear – and Fins if You Want Them
The clear Caribbean water is one of the highlights of Klein Curaçao, so chances are you’ll want to spend at least part of your day snorkeling. A limited number of masks and snorkels are available free of charge on board, on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have your own snorkeling gear and prefer using it, feel free to bring it with you. Fins are not provided, so bring your own if you like snorkeling with them. The sheltered side of Klein Curaçao offers opportunities to see colorful fish, reef structures and other marine life. Sea turtles are regularly spotted in the waters around the island, although they are wild animals and sightings can never be guaranteed. Remember to keep a respectful distance from marine life and never touch turtles or coral.
5. The Right Footwear for Exploring
Flip-flops and sandals are perfect for the boat and beach, but they’re not the best choice if you want to explore Klein Curaçao on foot. The interior of the island is dry and rugged, and the ground can be rocky, uneven and very hot. If you plan to walk to the historic lighthouse and continue toward the shipwrecks on the windward coast, bring sturdy shoes or secure water shoes. They’ll make the walk much more comfortable and protect your feet from the hot and uneven terrain. Whatever you do, don’t attempt the walk barefoot, the Caribbean sun heats the ground quickly.
6. A Towel and Dry Clothes
A towel is definitely worth making room for in your bag. You’ll probably spend plenty of time going in and out of the water, and although the Caribbean sun will help you dry quickly, a towel is much more comfortable. A light set of dry clothes can also be useful for the return journey, especially after a full day of swimming and snorkeling. If you plan to relax on the catamaran’s netting, keep in mind that you may get splashed along the way, which is all part of the fun!
7. Your Booking Confirmation
Before leaving your accommodation, make sure you have your booking confirmation or voucher available on your phone. BlueFinn operates different departures to Klein Curaçao, so check your confirmation carefully for your exact departure time and meeting point. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure for check-in. It’s also a good idea to double-check your meeting point before setting off so your Klein Curaçao adventure starts relaxed rather than rushed.
What You Don’t Need to Bring
One of the advantages of traveling to Klein Curaçao with BlueFinn Charters is that several things are already taken care of for you. Your trip includes a freshly prepared BBQ lunch, as well as water, soft drinks, juice, beer, wine and cocktails. Alcoholic beverages are served from approximately 12:30 PM.
