Tips for Preparing Your Trip to Klein Curaçao
Your Klein Curaçao adventure with BlueFinn Charters is almost here! A little preparation will help you make the most of your day on this beautiful uninhabited island.
From what to bring and where to check in to seasickness tips and what to expect during the day, here’s everything you need to know before your Klein Curaçao Day Trip.

1. Check Your Departure Details
BlueFinn operates different departures to Klein Curaçao, so always check your booking confirmation or voucher for your exact departure time and meeting point.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before departure for check-in. Our catamarans leave on schedule and unfortunately cannot wait for late arrivals.
Allow yourself enough travel time, especially during busy periods, and double-check your meeting point before leaving your accommodation.
2. What to Wear and Bring
You don’t need much for a day on Klein Curaçao, but a few essentials will make your trip more comfortable.
What to wear
- Light, breathable clothing for the warm Caribbean weather
- Swimwear – you’ll definitely want to get into the water
- Hat or cap for extra sun protection
- UV-protective sunglasses
- Flip-flops or sandals for the boat and beach
- Secure water shoes or sturdy footwear if you plan to walk across the island to the lighthouse and shipwrecks
What to bring
- Broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher – reapply regularly, especially after swimming
- A towel
- Your phone or camera for photos
- Your booking confirmation or voucher, available on your phone
- Your own snorkeling gear if you prefer using it
- Fins if you like snorkeling with them, as fins are not provided on board
Natural shade on Klein Curaçao is limited, so sun protection is especially important throughout the day.
3. Getting to Your Meeting Point
Your exact meeting point is listed in your booking confirmation. Make sure you check this before heading out, as BlueFinn operates different Klein Curaçao departures.
Plan to arrive early enough to park, find the meeting point and complete check-in at least 15 minutes before departure.
If you have booked a transfer, check your confirmation for your pick-up details and timing.

4. What to Expect During Your Klein Curaçao Day Trip
The Boat Trip
Once everyone is on board, it’s time to set sail for Klein Curaçao.
The crossing takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the sea conditions. You’ll be traveling across open sea, so some movement is completely normal and the ride can occasionally be bumpy.
Sit back, enjoy the views across the Caribbean Sea and keep your eyes open along the way — wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but you may occasionally spot dolphins during the journey.
Arriving at Klein Curaçao
Once you arrive, the day is yours to enjoy.
Swim in the clear Caribbean water, snorkel, relax on the white sandy beach or head out to explore the island. You can walk to the historic lighthouse and continue toward the shipwrecks on the rugged windward coast.
Prefer to do absolutely nothing? That works too. Find a comfortable spot, cool off in the sea and enjoy being away from Curaçao’s roads, resorts and everyday bustle.
Lunch & Drinks
Around 12:30 PM, a freshly prepared BBQ lunch is served buffet-style.
Water, soft drinks, juice, beer, wine and cocktails are included during the trip. Alcoholic beverages are served from approximately 12:30 PM.
Enjoy the Afternoon
After lunch, there’s still plenty of time to swim, snorkel, explore or simply relax on the beach.
Shade on Klein Curaçao is limited, so remember to keep applying sunscreen, stay hydrated and take breaks from the sun when needed.
Your return time depends on your departure and catamaran. Check your booking confirmation for the expected schedule.
5. Worried About Seasickness?
The journey to Klein Curaçao takes place across open sea, and conditions can vary from day to day. If you know you’re sensitive to motion sickness, preparing before departure can make your trip more comfortable.
A few things that may help:
- Eat a light meal before departure and avoid heavy, fatty or spicy food.
- Drink enough water and stay hydrated.
- Sit near the middle of the boat, where you’ll generally experience less movement.
- Stay outside in the fresh air when possible.
- Keep your eyes on the horizon.
- Avoid reading or looking at your phone for long periods while the boat is moving.
- Slow, controlled breathing may help if you start feeling uncomfortable.
- If you use motion sickness medication, it generally works best when taken before travel. Always follow the instructions for the specific product and ask a pharmacist or healthcare professional if you’re unsure which option is suitable for you.
Some people find ginger helpful, although scientific evidence is mixed.
If you start feeling unwell during the journey, let the BlueFinn crew know. They are experienced in assisting guests with seasickness and will help you feel as comfortable as possible.
